London, U.K. (June 2, 2020) – Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) appoints Harald Krüger as Senior Advisor, Europe, to support CPP Investments’ asset management and deal origination efforts across Europe. Mr. Krüger was most recently Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Mr. Krüger will focus on identifying and evaluating potential investment opportunities and partners that complement CPP Investments’ long-term investment strategy across all asset classes, with a particular focus on the DACH region. He will also provide counsel on existing investments in the region, which amount to C$63.4 billion or 15.5% of our total investments.

Mr. Krüger begins his new role June 1 and will closely coordinate his efforts with CPP Investments’ teams in Europe and other regions as appropriate.

Mr. Krüger joined BMW in 1992 as a management trainee in the Production division, and worked his way up through roles in engineering, human resources, planning and technical integration in Germany and the UK. He joined the Management Board in 2008 and became Chairman in 2015. He has been a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom AG since 2018 and recently Deutsche Lufthansa AG. He also has advisory roles at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, ESCP Business School Berlin and Technical University of Munich.

Mr. Krüger completed foundational studies in mechanical engineering at the Technical University at Brunswick, followed by advanced studies at RWTH Aachen University, where he graduated with a degree (Diplom Ingenieur) in mechanical engineering in 1991.
