President & Chief Executive Officer
John was appointed President & CEO in February 2021 and is responsible for leading CPP Investments and its investment activities.
John joined CPP Investments in 2008 and has worked in both the Total Portfolio Management group (now Total Fund Management) and in Private Investments. John took on leadership of Principal Credit Investments in 2015 as Managing Director and Global Head of the group. In 2018, he was appointed as Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Credit Investments, where he was responsible for leading credit investments globally.
Prior to joining CPP Investments, John spent nine years at Xerox Innovation Group in research and strategy roles.
John holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario. He is a CFA charterholder.
Senior Managing Director & Chief Financial and Risk Officer
Neil is responsible for leading all the operations, finance and risk functions at CPP Investments, including strategy and business planning, investment operations, corporate and investment finance, tax, performance, reporting and analytics, investment and enterprise risk, and assurance and advisory.
Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2017, Neil spent five years at BHP where he was Vice President, Finance, Minerals Americas, chaired their Finance Leadership team and led all public statutory reporting. Before that, Neil was a partner with KPMG for 10 years in senior client leadership roles, as well as having responsibility for the Regional Assurance practice for Western Canada.
Neil holds a BComm from the University of Saskatchewan and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Credit Investments
Andrew leads the global Credit Investments department, which manages CPP Investments’ credit exposures across the spectrum, including term loans, investment-grade and high-yield bonds, mezzanine lending, structured products and other solutions for issuers across corporate, real estate and consumer sectors.
Previously Andrew led the Americas Structured Credit and Financials team where he was responsible for investments in sub-investment grade structured credit and debt capital solutions for financial institutions, as well as the intellectual property investment strategy. He has invested across industries and asset classes, including corporate and structured credit opportunities, and has represented us as a director on multiple boards.
Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2008, Andrew worked for Fortress Investment Group investing in credit opportunities. He started his career with KPMG on the Financial Institutions industry team, followed by eight years in the Corporate Finance group advising mid-market companies on M&A and financings.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Business Valuator.
Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Active Equities
Frank leads our Active Equities department globally, including the Active Fundamental Equities, Fundamental Equities Asia, Direct Equity Investments Latin America, Relationship Investments, Sustainable Investing and Thematic Investing teams.
Frank was most recently Managing Director, Head of Research and Portfolio Strategy, leading data-driven research efforts and portfolio design and construction for Active Equities. He joined CPP Investments in 2007 in Toronto and has held senior leadership roles, including Head of Active Fundamental Equities, where he was responsible for managing a concentrated portfolio of equity investments and leading a team of sector specialists.
Prior to joining CPP Investments, Frank held roles at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and BMO.
Frank holds a BA in Economics and Management Science from Ryerson University, and an MA in Financial Economics from the University of Toronto. He is a CFA charterholder.
Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Public Affairs and Communications
Michel leads the team responsible for the organization’s overall communications program and global public affairs, including relationships with domestic and foreign governments, media and other diverse stakeholder groups.
Michel joined CPP Investments in 2011 and oversees reputation management strategy, positioning its global capabilities to support long-term investment and diversification goals, while upholding the mandate and governance structure. A senior communications professional, Michel has 25 years of experience in the areas of public affairs, government relations, corporate communications, social responsibility and branding.
Previously, he was most recently Vice President, Public and Corporate Affairs at Sun Life Financial where he oversaw the company’s global public affairs, corporate communications and brand-management functions. He has also held positions at the Canadian Bankers Association and the Canadian Payments Association. Michel also recently served on the Board of Directors of the Canada China Business Council, Canada-India Business Council and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance.
Michel holds a BA in Law from Carleton University.
Edwin D. Cass
Senior Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer
As CPP Investments’ Chief Investment Officer, Ed works closely with the CEO, the Chief Financial and Risk Officer and Investment Department leaders to strengthen the organization’s investment governance with the aim of generating greater performance gains.
He Joined CPP Investments in 2008, initially heading the Global Capital Markets group during the financial crisis. He subsequently headed the Global Corporate Securities group and then the Global Tactical Asset Allocation team, all within the Public Market Investments department. Ed served as Chief Investment Strategist and Head of Total Portfolio Management from 2014 to 2017 and was most recently the Global Head of Real Assets.
With over 25 years of investment experience, Ed previously held senior positions at Fortress Management Group, Deutsche Bank Canada and TD Securities.
Ed holds a BS (Hons) in Theoretical Physics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School.
Senior Managing Director & Chief Technology and Data Officer
Kelly is responsible for all aspects of CPP Investments’ technology and data capabilities and for leading the firm’s efforts to optimize the use of data, advanced analytics and technology to enable business growth, process automation and innovation.
Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2018, Kelly served as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Managing Director for S&P Global Ratings in New York. Before that, Kelly was the Chief Information Officer, Business Intelligence for GE Capital, where she had dual responsibilities for GE Capital’s global risk data warehouse and Capital Americas’ entire data ecosystem, and established an award-winning innovation team.
Kelly holds a BS from the University of Virginia and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Private Equity
Suyi leads CPP Investments’ Private Equity program globally, including teams dedicated to investments in Direct Private Equity, Private Equity Asia, Private Equity Funds and Secondaries.
Suyi was most recently Senior Managing Director & Head of Asia Pacific overseeing CPP Investments’ investment activities in Asia Pacific across all investment programs including public equity, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and credit. Suyi joined CPP Investments in 2007 and established our first international office in Hong Kong. She oversaw the private equity business in Asia as Head of Private Equity Asia until early 2016.
Suyi has over 20 years of investment experience. Prior to joining CPP Investments, she worked at The Carlyle Group and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan for private equity investments in Asia as well as globally. Before her investing career, Suyi also worked at McKinsey & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers in various Asian countries. Suyi holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Seoul National University. She is a Certified Public Accountant.
She currently serves on the board of directors of Hong Kong Broadband Network (“HKBN”), a Hong Kong listed Internet, Communication & Tele-communication company. Suyi is also on the Products Advisory Committee of the Securities & Futures Commission of Hong Kong and sits on the board of Junior Achievement in Korea and Global Private Capital Association (ex “EMPEA”).
Senior Managing Director & Chief Talent Officer
Mary leads our global Human Resources team.
A seasoned executive with over 25 years of Human Resources experience, she joined CPP Investments in 2015 and is responsible for talent acquisition, organizational development, international mobility, compensation and benefits, facilities and office services, and inclusion and diversity.
Prior to joining CPP Investments, Mary was Senior Vice President at Holt, Renfrew & Co. where she was responsible for their Human Resources function. Prior to that she was Senior Vice President, Corporate Human Resources at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. She also spent seven years as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at IMAX Corporation.
Mary holds a BA in Administrative and Commercial Studies from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Senior Managing Director, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary
Patrice leads our global legal, compliance and corporate secretarial functions.
She is a seasoned business lawyer and advisor with deep experience in transactions, regulation, corporate governance and providing strategic counsel.
Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2015, Patrice spent over 22 years as a corporate lawyer in private practice at Torys LLP, a highly respected cross-border law firm, advising some of Canada’s largest public, private and government businesses in strategic mergers and acquisitions, financing and governance matters. In addition to being a practicing partner, she served on Torys’ executive management committee for several years.
Patrice holds a BA (Hons) from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Queen’s University. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
Patrice is an active member of the Advisory Council to the Dean of Queen’s University Law School.
Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Capital Markets and Factor Investing
Poul is responsible for leading the External Portfolio Management, Financing, Collateral & Trading, Macro Strategies, Research & Innovation Group, and Quantitative Strategies & Risk Premia groups. Before this appointment, he was Managing Director and Head of Thematic Investing and External Portfolio Management.
Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2009, Poul had several senior roles, including Chief Investment Officer at AP2 in Sweden. He also held senior roles at Nordea Investment Management, including Head of Tactical Asset Allocation, Fixed Income Research and Quantitative Portfolio Management.
Poul holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in Economics and Management from Aarhus University in Denmark.
He currently serves on the Board of Enstar Group, and on the Standards Board for Alternative Investments.
Senior Managing Director & Chief Investment Strategist
As Chief Investment Strategist, Geoffrey works closely with the Chief Investment Officer to meet the Total Fund Management’s (TFM) objectives as CPP Investments moves towards 2025 and beyond. Geoffrey acts as a representative of TFM in the global offices, and in developing and furthering relationships on behalf of TFM with other like-minded institutional investors globally.
He joined CPP Investments in 2011, at the inception of the former Total Portfolio Management department, and has helped shape its growth and evolution, to define and execute CPP Investments’ Total Portfolio Approach.
Previously, Geoffrey held finance roles with Fannie Mae and Capital One Financial where he managed the global balance sheet. Geoffrey also ran a consulting practice and was Adjunct Professor at American University’s Kogod School of Business in Washington, DC.
He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and a PhD in Economics from Princeton University.
Deborah K. Orida
Senior Managing Director, Global Head of Real Assets & Chief Sustainability Officer
Deborah leads our global Real Assets investment department, which encompasses Infrastructure, Real Estate, Sustainable Energies, Portfolio Value Creation and Sustainable Investing. Real Assets is active in major developed and emerging countries.
Deborah is also CPP Investments’ Chief Sustainability Officer, responsible for our strategy on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters, particularly climate change. Working across the organization, she leads a global, cross-enterprise approach to sustainability as we pursue our mandate on behalf of 20 million Canadians.
Deborah was previously Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Active Equities. She joined CPP Investments in 2009 in Toronto and has held senior leadership roles, including Head of Private Equity Asia, which she led after establishing the Relationship Investments Asia portfolio from Hong Kong.
Prior to joining CPP Investments, she spent nine years at Goldman Sachs in New York and Toronto. Previously, Deborah was a securities lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto.
Deborah holds an LLB and BA from Queen’s University, Canada and an MBA from The Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania.
Deborah is on the Board of Directors of IHS Markit, an S&P 500 company, Branksome Hall and Alpine Canada Alpin. She previously was a member of the Board of Directors of Nord Anglia Education, a private equity owned company, HKBN Ltd., a publicly listed Hong Kong company, and the Bridgepoint Health Foundation.
