SI supports CPP Investments’ role as an active, engaged owner by carrying out all proxy voting activities and leads our engagement with portfolio companies to address ESG risks and opportunities to enhance the long-term sustainability of the Fund.​

The team also helps foster our relationships with like-minded industry peers to maximize the impact of our collaborative engagements on ESG issues.

Our Team

The Sustainable Investing team is comprised of experienced professionals based in Toronto. Here is a listing of all our senior team members.

Samantha Hill

Managing Director, Sustainable Investing

Samantha Hill is a senior leader in CPPIB’s Sustainable Investing team, where she oversees global activities to consider material environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters in engagements with public and private companies and leads the team’s activities alongside investment colleagues to integrate ESG matters across investment lifecycles. Samantha is also one of several individuals leading CPPIB’s efforts to enhance climate change-related considerations in investment and asset management activities across the Fund.

Prior to joining CPPIB in 2007, Samantha worked in multiple roles within CIBC’s Commercial Banking division related to senior debt financing for national accounts and real estate.

Samantha holds an MBA from Dalhousie University, where she completed a double major in Finance and Environmental Management.

Richard Manley

Managing Director, Head of Sustainable Investing

Richard leads the team responsible for integrating consideration of environmental, social and governance, including climate risks and opportunities across our investment programs.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2019, Richard spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Global Head of Thematic Equity and ESG Research, and Co-Head of EMEA Equity Research. Previously, he worked at Merrill Lynch, Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, and Paribas Capital Markets as an Integrated Oil & Gas equity analyst.

Richard holds a Graduado Superior/BA (Hons) in European Business Administration from ICADE in Madrid.

Michael Hall

Managing Director, Sustainable Investing

Michael is a Managing Director in CPPPIB’s Sustainable investing team based in London.

Prior to his role at CPPIB, Michael created and established the ESG discipline pat DPI, a private equity firm. He also has prior experience in technical sustainability roles at ERM and Bechtel Corporation.

Michael holds an MSc with distinction in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London and a BSc, Zoology Major from James Cook University, Australia.
