Ryan Selwood

Managing Director, Head of Direct Private Equity

Ryan Selwood is Head of Direct Private Equity at CPP Investments. He previously led both CPP Investments’ Direct Private Equity activities in Europe and in Financial Institutions.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2006, Ryan was a Vice-President at Merrill Lynch & Co. in the Financial Institutions Group in the Investment Banking Division in New York.

Ryan holds a BA from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University and law degree (LL.B.) from Osgoode Hall Law School.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Investment and Compensation Committees of the Board of Directors of Wilton Re and as an Operating Board Member of Waymo. Previously, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Antares Holdings and on the boards of Ascot Group, Dorna Sports and AWAS Aviation Capital.

Geoff McKay

Managing Director, Head of North America, Direct Private Equity

Geoff focuses on making direct, long-term investments in private companies across North America.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2014, Geoff was Managing Director and Head of Private Equity at Vulcan Capital in Seattle. He was previously Partner at Forstmann Little & Co. in New York and worked in M&A for Goldman Sachs in New York and London.

Geoff holds a BA in Economics from the University of Victoria and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is on the boards of Asurion and Informatica.

Sam Blaichman

Managing Director, Direct Private Equity

Sam is responsible for our direct private equity efforts in the Industrial sector and serves as a member of the Active Equities Investment Committee. He has worked on private equity investments across sectors.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2007, Sam worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company, an investment banker at CIBC World Markets and in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Corporate Finance and Assurance groups.

Sam holds a BComm From McGill University and an MBA from the Ivey Business School. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Chartered Professional Accountant.

He is on the board of Berlin Packaging and previously served on the boards of The Gates Corporation and Air Distribution Technologies.

Lori Hall-Kimm

Managing Director, Direct Private Equity

Lori leads the team responsible for coverage of the Consumer/Retail sector. She previously led our co-investments business across North America and Europe within the Secondaries & Co-investments team.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2016, Lori spent almost 11 years in the Private Capital team at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, helping establish their London office and leading European fund and co-investments. Prior to OTPP, Lori worked in the Consumer-Retail Investment Banking team at Goldman Sachs and previously held positions with TD Securities and OMERS. She previously held board appointments with 99Cents Only Stores, Gruppo Coin and OVS SpA and Alexander Forbes Pty.

Lori holds a BBA (Hons) from the Schulich School of Business at York University and an MBA from the Columbia Business School.

She is on the boards of Merlin Entertainments and Nord Anglia Education.

Michael Douglas

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Michael is responsible for sourcing, executing and overseeing private equity investments in North America.

He joined CPP Investments in 2007 and previously worked at Ernst & Young Orenda Corporate Finance.

Michael holds a BComm from Queen’s University and is a CFA Charterholder.

He currently serves on the boards of Ascend Learning and Waystar; and was previously a director at Acelity, LHP Hospital Group and Wilton Re, and a board observer at Antares.

Thomas Kalvik

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Tom is responsible for direct private equity investments with a focus on financial services. He was previously a member of the firm’s credit group.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2010, Tom worked at Goldman Sachs in New York in their Merchant Banking Division. Before that, he worked in Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking Division, where he was a part of the Financial Institutions Group.

Tom holds a BA in Economics and Architecture from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He is on the board of Ascot Group and was previously a board observer of Antares Capital and Ports America.

Sunny Lee

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Sunny works on direct private equity transactions and leads coverage of the media and telecom vertical in North America. During his time here, he has worked on many investments including Refinitiv, Endeavor, Alibaba and Ziply Fiber.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2008, he worked at CIBC World Markets in the Mergers & Acquisitions group. Before that, he worked at TD Securities.

Sunny holds a BComm from the University of British Columbia. He is a CFA charterholder.

David Lubek

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

David focuses on direct private equity transactions and leads the business services vertical in North America.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2008, David worked at CIBC World Markets in the Mergers & Acquisitions investment banking group.

David holds a BBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Nick Senst

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Nick is responsible for sourcing, executing and overseeing private equity investments in North America. He focuses primarily on the health care sector. 

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2010, Nick worked at RBC Capital Markets where he spent the majority of his time in the Leveraged Finance team. 

Nick holds an HBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University. 

He currently serves on the board of Ascend Learning. 

Nick McKee

Managing Director, Head of Financial Institutions, Direct Private Equity

Nick is responsible for leading our direct private equity investments in financial services.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2018, he was Head of Strategy & Corporate Development at Marsh & McLennan Companies, where he was responsible for strategy, acquisitions, investments, new business development and other global initiatives – completing more than 100 acquisitions in 25 countries. Before that, Nick was a lawyer at Davis Polk in New York, where he advised public and private equity clients on M&A transactions. He started his career at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) in Melbourne, Australia.

Nick holds a BComm from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons) from Bond University.

Nick is on the board of Ascot Group Limited.

Hafiz Lalani

Managing Director, Head of Europe, Direct Private Equity

Hafiz focuses on making direct, long-term investments in private companies across Europe. He has worked on multiple private investments including AgCoA, Asurion, AWAS, Dorna, GlobalLogic, Hotelbeds, Sportradar, ista and Visma.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2006, Hafiz worked in the Technology, Media & Telecom investment banking group at CIBC World Markets. Before that, he worked for Millennium Research Group, a boutique research and consulting firm focused on the medical device industry. He previously served on the boards of AWAS and Livingston International.

Hafiz holds a BComm from Queen’s University. He is a CFA charterholder.

Hafiz is on the boards of GlobalLogic, Hotelbeds, Sportradar and Visma.

Andrej Babache

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Andrej focuses on making direct, long-term investments in private companies across industrial businesses as well as across DACH and the Nordics.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2020, he was a Partner at Mid Europa Partners, and prior to that an investment banker with Citigroup.

Andrej holds an MA in Economics and Business from the University of Edinburgh.

Ricardo Caupers

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Ricardo is responsible for private equity investments in business services companies in Europe. He also has geographic coverage responsibility for Southern Europe.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2020, Ricardo was a Partner at Palamon Capital Partners, where he spent more than ten years focusing on control investments in fast-growing European companies. Previously, he worked for The Boston Consulting Group in New York and London.

Ricardo holds a BA in Business Administration from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Katherine Chung

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Katherine is responsible for leading Financial Services direct private equity investments in Europe.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2017, she was a Principal at Crestview Partners, leading and managing investments in insurance, specialty finance and business services. Previously, Katherine was a Principal at Blackstone in the Private Equity group, based in both New York and London. She’s also held positions at Capital Z Partners and Morgan Stanley. Katherine served on several boards in her previous roles.

Katherine holds a BA from Johns Hopkins University (Hons) and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Katherine is on the boards of Ascot Group and BGL.

Pascal Keutgens

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Pascal focuses on the healthcare and consumer sectors. He is also responsible for investments in Germany, France and the Benelux.

Prior to joining CPP Investments, Pascal was a Partner at Bregal Freshstream, where he was responsible for their Private Equity activities in France and the Benelux. Previously Pascal was a Partner at Doughty Hanson, where he spent 13 years focusing on mid-market buyouts across Europe. Pascal trained as an accountant at PwC.

He holds a BA in Finance from HEC Business School in Liège, Belgium, and a MA in International Business from the University of Leicester (UK).

Austin Locke

Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity

Austin focuses on private equity transactions in the Technology sector.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2014, Austin worked at Miller Buckfire in New York, where he specialized in restructurings and distressed transactions. He previously served as an investment professional at DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, where he analyzed and executed private equity investments across several industries. Prior to that he worked in mergers & acquisitions.

Austin has a BS from Wake Forest University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

He serves on the board of Informatica.
