The CSG group invests in specialty finance assets (both consumer and commercial), special situations credit, royalties, CLOs, and other asset classes – and can do so in the form of direct lending, structured credit and flow arrangements, as well as hybrid and equity/residual exposures.

Our multi-asset class approach enables us to provide solutions for our partners’ evolving capital needs as well as for the largest and most complex transactions in the market.

The group targets investment opportunities that range from $100 million to $3 billion plus in North America and Latin America.

Devon Kirk

Managing Director, Head of Capital Solutions

Devon leads the Capital Solutions group, which focuses on providing flexible capital at scale for complex corporate financings and asset-based opportunities. She was previously a Managing Director in our Direct Private Equity group, focused on the Financials sector.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2011, Devon worked as a Corporate/M&A lawyer at Linklaters LLP in London. Before that, she was a member of the M&A team at BMO Harris Nesbitt in Chicago.

Devon holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a B.Comm. from McGill University. She is a CFA Charterholder and a Member of the New York State Bar.

Devon is currently on the board of Wilton Re.


Salman Hasnain

Managing Director, Capital Solutions

Salman is responsible for originating and managing credit investments within the Financial Services sector. Previously, he was a Managing Director in the Direct Private Equity group at CPP Investments focused on the Financials sector.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2018, Salman was a Director at Lone Star Funds where he focused on private equity opportunities, structured credit investments, and served on the board of Caliber Home Loans. Before that, Salman spent three years at Equifin Capital Partners, a financial services focused private equity fund. He started his career at JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley.

Salman holds a BA in Computer Science and Economics from Cornell University, and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Salman is a board observer at Mechanics Bank.

Hussain Abbas

Managing Director, Capital Solutions

Hussain is responsible for high-yield investments in portfolios of credit and credit-like assets, as well as public and private corporate credit investments.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2009, he worked at Barclays Capital in the Energy, Utilities & Infrastructure group in London where he focused on M&A, Leverage Finance and capital-raising activities. Previously, he worked at an energy investing joint venture between First Reserve and Petrofac Resources.

Hussain holds an MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA (High Hons) from the University of Chicago.

Nicole Byrns

Managing Director, Capital Solutions

Nicole focuses on investment opportunities across the structured credit sector. She joined CPP Investments in 2019.

Prior to joining CPP Investments, she worked at Deutsche Bank’s Global Credit Trading group, where she focused on structured credit opportunities in the fintech, aviation, mortgage and esoteric industries.

Previously, she was at Garrison Investment Group and Citi, where she was responsible for originating and executing financings and asset purchase arrangements with specialty finance companies.

Nicole holds a BA from Wellesley College and an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. She also attended L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar.

Manjot Rana

Managing Director, Capital Solutions

Manjot leads the special situations credit vertical within CSG. He joined CPP Investments in 2011, working in the London office focused on European credit and leading the APAC credit business in the Hong Kong office.

Prior to joining CPP Investments, Manjot worked at a distressed focused private equity fund with over $2.5 billion in assets under management. Previously, Manjot worked in the Leveraged Finance Group at Barclays Capital and Citigroup in New York.

Manjot holds a BS in Finance and International Business from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
