Americas Structured Credit and Financials

The ASCF group seeks high-yield investments in portfolios of credit and credit-like assets, as well as corporate credit investments in specialty finance companies and other financials. This includes purchasing or financing whole loan portfolios, residential mortgages, consumer credit, other smaller-scale credit and collateralized loan obligation and other asset-backed securities. The group also invests in intellectual property with royalty-related income streams backed by tangible and intangible assets globally.

Andrew Edgell

Managing Director, Head of Americas Structured Credit and Financials

Andrew has invested across industries and asset classes, including corporate and structured credit opportunities, and has represented us as a director on multiple boards.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2008, Andrew worked for Fortress Investment Group investing in credit opportunities. He started his career with KPMG on the Financial Institutions industry team, followed by eight years in the Corporate Finance group advising mid-market companies on M&A and financings.

Andrew holds a BComm from McGill University. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Business Valuator.

Philippa Flint

Senior Principal, Americas Structured Credit and Financials

Philippa is responsible for leading the intellectual property investing team.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2014, she was a healthcare equity research analyst at a boutique investment firm. Previously, she was a Director, healthcare equity research at RBC Capital Markets and Vice President, Medical Affairs at AstraZeneca Canada. She was also Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Project Management at Astra Canada.

Philippa holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from York University.

Devon Kirk

Senior Principal, Americas Structured Credit & Financials

Devon is responsible for originating and managing credit investments within the financials sector in the Americas. Prior to her current role, she focused on making direct private equity investments at CPP Investments.

Before joining CPP Investments, she practiced corporate law at Linklaters in London and was an M&A Analyst at BMO.

Devon has a BComm from McGill University and a JD from Harvard Law School. She is a CFA Charterholder and a Member of the New York State Bar.

She is a Director of Wilton Re, a CPP Investments portfolio company, and a Governor of the Bishop Strachan School.

Hussain Abbas

Senior Principal, Americas Structured Credit and Financials

Hussain is responsible for high-yield investments in portfolios of credit and credit-like assets, as well as public and private corporate credit investments.

Prior to joining CPP Investments in 2009, he worked at Barclays Capital in the Energy, Utilities & Infrastructure group in London where he focused on M&A, Leverage Finance and capital-raising activities. Previously, he worked at an energy investing joint venture between First Reserve and Petrofac Resources.

Hussain holds an MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA (High Hons) from the University of Chicago.

Nicole Byrns

Senior Principal, Americas Structured Credit and Financials

Nicole focuses on investment opportunities across the structured credit sector. She joined CPP Investments in 2019.

Prior to joining CPP Investments, she worked at Deutsche Bank’s Global Credit Trading group, where she focused on structured credit opportunities in the fintech, aviation, mortgage and esoteric industries.

Previously, she was at Garrison Investment Group and Citi, where she was responsible for originating and executing financings and asset purchase arrangements with specialty finance companies.

Nicole holds a BA from Wellesley College and an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.  She also attended L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar.
